Wildfires near the scenic California coastal town of Big Sur jumped a defense line. And that forced the evacuation of 850 residents. The evacuation freed up the roads to allow firefighters to get in and battle the blaze. More than 52,000 acres have been charred since the fires broke out two weeks ago. The steep slopes, winds and dry vegetation have hampered the firefighting effort.
