The causes - rising demand, bad weather, and the increasing use of corn for fuel. The mounting global crisis has prompted intergovernmental agencies to take action. After Indonesia and India tried to curb rice exports and Egypt banned shipments altogether, the World Bank is urging food-producing nations not to ban exports. The United Nations is setting up a food task force. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged nations to fund $755 million in emergency food aid. (SOUNDBITE)(English) U.N.
