Pakistan was virtually bankrupt when he was forced from office eight years ago but many have clearly forgiven him. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif received a heroes welcome from his supporters. He tried to return once before but President Pervez Musharraf sent him back to Saudi Arabia where he'd been living in exile. This time it seems the Saudi King has forced Musharraf to let him return home. Sharif was ousted by Musharraf in a military coup. He was later convicted of corruption and could be barred from standing in January's elections. His supporters say that won't stop him. Musharraf's popularity is flagging after the imposition of emergency rule and Sharif's reappearance could spark large-scale defections.
