As food costs around the world continue to increase, scavengers known as 'freegans' are raiding supermarket bins to find edible supplies. Global food prices are soaring, but in the United Kingdom consumers still throw out around one third of the food that they buy. Some people trying to combat the amount of waste are so-called 'freegans' who raid supermarket bins to salvage food that is otherwise tossed out as rubbish. Two such freegans, identifying themselves as Alf and Ashwyn, demonstrated their techniques to Reuters, and the range of edible products that can be obtained for their own consumption or for distribution among friends. "Mixed vegetable selection, all looking rather fresh," said Alf. "Mushrooms from Ireland.. Grapes from India.. " And it's all free.
