Palestinians mark Nakba anniversary or "catastrophe," an annual day of reflection over shared suffering in the conflict with Israel. For 78-year-old Mahmoud Obeid, the war over Israel's creation in 1948 spelled lifelong misery in a dead-end refugee camp in Bethlehem. But as fellow Palestinians on Tuesday (May 15) marked the 59th anniversary of the time they call the Nakba or "catastrophe," Obeid said he remained loyal to Palestine and says he would never abandon it no matter what was offered to him in return.
