A conservation expert is warning residents of Ontario homes near rivers and streams to prepare for possible flooding as heavy snowfall quickly liquefies amid soaring temperatures. Snow accumulated from several storms is piled throughout Ontario communities as Environment Canada predicted temperatures reaching 12 degrees in Toronto and London, 10 degrees in Ottawa and 8 degrees in Kingston on Monday, accompanied by rain throughout much of the southern and eastern part of the province. January thaws aren't unusual, said Charles Billington, a spokesman for eastern Ontario's Rideau Valley Conservation Authority. "What's causing our concern this time around is this unusually deep snow cover that we have, he said. The warm temperatures will cause that snow to release large amounts of water into Ontario rivers and streams, he added.
